    Hello,

The baffletex is glued to the hornwalls of the 8" horn (so inside the horn) We only used it on the upper and lower panel, not on the side panels of the horn.

This baffletex has nothing to do with the 2x 15" section. For this 2x 15" section it is important to cover the walls of the backchamber.

    Best regards,

    Walt

    Hello,

Not Rockwool but baffletex. This stuff is about 4-5mm thick and is normally used to cover fronts of cabinets to absorb reflections. In the case of the 8" section of the X-tro it does make the horn sound somewhat better (not much, but I would use the baffletex).

Both the 15" from the X-tro have the same horn lenght. It is an optical illusion one is longer.

    Hello,

The large mms is not a disadvantage, in fact it is an advantage. It is a result of the large 4" voicecoil and thick and strong cone. Those are exactly the parameters you need with multiple horns in a stack. Also the Ciare 12.00SW has a truely massive magnet to get all this mass in motion. I agree 1500W RMS is quite a bit but the driver can handle this.

    Hello,

As Pysos mentions the Punisher Horn works very well in a stack of four. Powered with 1200-1500W for each Punisher this setup will blur your vision and make it difficult to breath when standing close. The cabinets have to be strapped together firmly because with each bassnote the cabinets want to move back.

I know a guy who uses 12 Punishers (!). He has to EQ everything below 50Hz out of the subs when he plays outdoors because of noise complaints from people who live miles away. He uses RAM BUX 5.0 to properly power the subs.

If you only have two horns, the best way to place them is in a centre stack.

  • Bug bei AJ-Horn?

    • walt
    • 6. Juli 2006 um 23:38

AJ gives the response at 1 metre. But if dl = -1 m this means AJ gives you the response right in front of the woofer. This mean SPL goes to infinity if dl approaches -1. Things can not be easier than this.

    Hello,

Last saturday there was a party in belgium using 8x Punisher (14kW) and 4x small BR-cabinet loaded with Beyma 18g50 (5kW). At 20 metres from the stage 135dB(c) was measured. All the DJ's complimented about the sound. The Punisher really goes deep enough for most applications. It moves your trousers, makes it difficult to breath and blurs your vision.

    Hello,

You can fit 3x Punisher in the same space as 1 M-horn. This Punisher stack will play about 10dB louder in the range you need it most.

But if you are limited on money the M-horn will give lots of bass for the bucks. They will also play very deep.

  • Simulation von Hörnern mit Finiten Elementen

    Hello,

When measuring a real system one usually uses the FFT algorithm to get the frequency response. But your model is not a real system. It will not be faster to do it this way because the computer would have to simulate the whole system en then use the FFT algorithm. But by simulating the system the computer has already solved the equations of motion.

Try to simulate by octave. Use much frequency points in the low frequencies and less in the higher frequencies. Currently I am doing a dynamic analysis on a container crane with the use of Ansys software. A harmonic calculation on 25 frequencies takes about 5 minutes on a good pc. This is with about 400 elements. You could try do reduce the number of elements.

Also there are some techniques to reduce computation time but in your case this will be difficult.

  • Punisher Horn Ciare 12.00SW

    Hello,

The configuration with 1x X-tro and 2x Punisher a side will cover up to about 400 people with (very) loud sound en very good sound quality.

You can run the system with only six outputs by running sub and lowmid mono. Most stereo information is in the mid and high frequencys so this trick will hardly be audible with most songs.

The Ciare 12.00SW is a much better driver than LAB-12. LAB-12 can not be used in Punisher.

The Ciare 12.00SW has a real x-max (one way) of 11.5mm. The coil is 33mm long and the top poleplate is 10mm thick. Image that cone moving 23mm peak-peak, that will give some serious air movement in front of the cabinet. The 18Sound drivers have far smaller real x-max. The values specified by 18sound include 1/4 depth of the airgap on top of the voicecoil overhang. In that case the Ciare 12.00SW would offer 14mm x-max. If you can't get the Ciare you can try some other driver but that is about the same as driving a LAB-horn with a driver other then LAB-12.

    Best regards,

  • BR-Horn

    • walt
    • 27. Juli 2005 um 16:39

    Hello,

Hope english is not a problem over here...

I would like to examine a BR-horn in somewhat more detail. I am talking about a horn which ports the rear chamber back into the horn.

If you look at the electrical equivalent schemes for a horn and a BR cabinet it seems to me it should be possible to gain SPL below the horns midband by making sure the added capicitance of the BR-port equals out the inductance formed by the rear chamber and the stiffness of the cone.

What do you guys think about this idea? Probably there are people who have build this kind of construction. Did they find any rules of thumb?

    Best regards,

I think you will like those small horns. If you only have two than indeed a centerstack is the best option. Remember these Punishers need a lot of power to really start to move the air.

    Hello,

The X-tro measures H80x B50 x D80cm so it is not that big. You can lift it with two people but three is more handy. The weight depends very much on the kind of wood used. I estimate it can be between 65-75kg.

The X-tro is powerfull. We used one a side for a 700 people party with succes. If you want it to get real loud about 400 people is what I would do with 2x X-tro + 4x Punisher.

For 600 people 2x Punisher a side will do. Put three a side and you will get pants flapping bass all around the place :D

For the people who have a low budget: it should be possible to use the P-Audio SN-15B in the BassBabe with good results. At least here in the Netherlands these P-Audio woofers are a lot cheaper than 18sound 15ND-930.
