Concept:
The MLA "Modular Line Array" in ist present form has been developed in the mid -1990s and is still being tested. The development of the MLA loudspeaker system was mostly triggered by the growing demand of P.A. Systems in the expanding area of sporting and other major events. Out of logistical reasons organisers and clients as well began to ask for a centralisation of the sound sources.
The MLA loudspeaker system comprises two elements with indentical measurements so far, a MH high-focus element for mid and high frequency and an external bass element to create external subarrays.
Because highly efficient modular components are used we get a Line Array, which has optimum coupling features in the transmission range of 120Hz-16KHz. For the first time the MLA was fitted with ribbon compact drivers for the electroacoustical transmission of the hight frequency range. Unlike the compression drivers the ribbon compact drivers ´array and combination produce a line source. The acoustical coupling features of the MLA "Modular Line Array" have been demonstrated at open air events with significant range.
Handling / rigging:
When the MLA loudspeaker system was developed, great emphasis was place on the size and volume of the individual elements. With the standard measurements of 1160 x 470 x 900 mm 5-elements can be loaded into a standard Eurocontainer because the systems are designed to cover truck size. 10-elements can be transported at an area of 2350 x 2320 mm.
The MLA case is made of multiple glued Finnish birch with an CPF core to reduce the weight.
Each MLA element has 4 "Ancra Aircargo" bars which guarantee a flexible and safe handling of the MLA system. "Airstraps" are used for connecting the MLA loudspeaker system which allow of a vertical descend in 0,5° steps. The mainframe for the MLA "Modular Line Array" consists of a "FLYHAWK" with a TÜV-approval (German approval authority for technical products) of 12000 kg. A two-bar rail system makes it especially easy to exactly align the array. Due to this system the upper bar can be independantly aligned from the lower bar. The MLA "FLYHAWK" which is made of aluminium has a total weight of only 95 kg.
